In this month's episode of Hadassah On Call: New Frontiers in Medicine, we welcome Dr. Yuval Tal, director of the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Unit at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem. Dr. Tal shares the latest advancements in clinical immunology, focusing on personalized treatments and biological medicine. He also highlights his department's expertise in treating various immunological diseases.
Dr. Tal discusses his team's recent research on Benralizumab, an IL-5 receptor antibody used to treat eosinophilic cystitis, a rare disease where eosinophils cause bladder inflammation and injury. He shares how his team treated a patient with a bladder condition with an off-label treatment designed for asthma. Within three weeks, the condition started to clear, and after a few months, his cystoscopy came back normal. He also explains his department's collaboration with Harvard University on new research into lupus dermatitis, discussing racial disparities and autoimmune disorders.
Dr. Tal explores potential connections between psychiatric issues and anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction, and the link between food allergies and mental health issues in young adults.
What's to come? So much more. As Dr. Tal says, one of the major pieces of research in the works now is how we can potentially replace the EpiPen.

Gandel Rehabilitation Center at Hadassah Mount Scopus
Israel is facing a critical shortage in rehabilitation capacity, especially in Jerusalem, at a time when it is most needed. Since October 7, more than 15,000 Israelis have been wounded in Hamas' terrorist attacks.
The world-class Gandel Rehabilitation Center at Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus opened three floors early to meet Israel’s rehab needs after October 7. You can still help advance the second phase of construction to serve 10,000 patients a year by donating at go.hadassah.org/GRC.
