More than two million people worldwide live with multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease that is 2-3 times more likely to be contracted by women and often confines patients to wheelchairs. Although it's an incurable disease, Dr. Dimitrios Karussis, the head of Hadassah's Multiple Sclerosis Center in Jerusalem, is finding effective ways to treat it.
In the latest Hadassah On Call podcast episode, “Causes, Groundbreaking Treatment and Living with Multiple Sclerosis,” Dr. Karussis shares the groundbreaking results of his phase 2 trial that not only slowed the progression of the disease but helped MS patients regain mobility.
“We have opened a window to a new era of this type of regenerative medicine,” said Dr. Karussis.
During the episode, timed to coincide with Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, Dr. Karussis discusses his MS research and surprising causes of the disease with host Benyamin Cohen. He also shares a heartwarming story about a patient who stopped using a wheelchair after her treatment at Hadassah Hospital.
