Karen Bloom, currently of Oakland, Calif., is co-chair of the brand-new Hadassah Educators Council. She is currently the vice president of membership for Hadassah Central Pacific Coast. Karen has served as president of the Ruach Group of the Oakland Chapter, which later became the Oakland Ruach Chapter; regional Jewish and Israel education chair, creating Zoom discussions related to The Branch Podcast; and for many years as her chapter’s secretary, with a passion for supporting Zionism, membership and programming.
Karen is rebbetzin of Temple Beth Abraham (TBA) in Oakland, where she has chaired and co-chaired the major fundraising auction event, volunteered in the Gan Avraham preschool, supported the Women of TBA, and coordinated and still participates regularly in the TBA Book Club.
After graduating from Goucher College with a BA in applied mathematics, followed by the University of Cincinnati with her teacher certification, Karen’s professional career began in Ohio, where she taught math at George Washington Junior High School in Hamilton, followed by Sycamore High School in Cincinnati. Her work continued at the Hackley School in Tarrytown, N.Y. and St. Andrew’s School in Barrington, R.I. She is currently employed at Piedmont Middle School in Piedmont, Calif., where she is a middle school math teacher.
