Dr. Ofelia Averack of McAllen, Texas is the chair of national grassroots Israel donor recognition. Simultaneously, she is also serving as a member of the Zionist Education Team and acts as a liaison.
Dr. Averack is past president of Hadassah Greater Southwest, where she has also served as organization vice president, area vice president and leadership chair. she has been an active Hadassah participant for 29 years. Previous positions include leadership chair, Young Women's Cabinet chair, area vice president, vice president of programs, women’s health chair, education chair and representative, donor and guest speaker to the FAB 5 for Hadassah Greater Southwest two times in a row. At her local chapter, the McAllen Valley Chapter of Hadassah, Dr. Averack has worked as secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer, programs chair, fundraising chair, HMO chair, Youth Aliah chair, vice president and president of the local chapter. She currently serves as the parliamentarian chair.
In her local community, Dr. Averack is actively involved in the Rio Grande Valley Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival, a program for community outreach, training and education (RGV Cares). She also served at the McAllen City Council Ambulance Advisory Board. Additionally, she served as the president and founder of Friends of the International Baccalaureate School at Lamar Academy in McAllen, PTA president at a local school, president of the City Council PTA, and president of the district PTA. She has been a state PTA board member and national PTA board member serving as the Diversity chair. She was a teacher at her local Hebrew school and later served as education director of the Sunday school. She has been the ritual chair, membership chair and president of the Sisterhood, and currently is serving as a member of the team for the High Holidays at Temple Emanuel in McAllen, Texas.
