At Supreme Court, 10 Hadassah Attorneys Sworn In

For Jenna Conwisar, being sworn into the Supreme Court Bar before all nine justices “was the honor of a lifetime.”

Conwisar joined nine other Hadassah women on February 24 for this moving ceremony, part of an annual program of the Hadassah Attorneys and Judges Council.

“This experience definitely deepened my connection to Hadassah,” Conwisar said. “Through this program, Hadassah created a meaningful full-circle moment linking my professional achievement with my family's history.”

Her mother, Michelle Conwisar, a Hadassah national board member, was able to attend the ceremony as her guest. “Having my mom there — representing generations of women in my family who supported Hadassah — made this connection even more meaningful,” she added.

During the ceremony, Lynn Altshuler, co-chair of Hadassah’s Attorneys and Judges Council and co-sponsor of the Hadassah group along with Geri Kahn, made a motion to formally admit the attorneys to the Supreme Court Bar. Chief Justice John Roberts welcomed those who were newly admitted.

“It is very special to be sworn in before all nine justices who are about 10 feet in front of you and then be welcomed into the Supreme Court Bar by the chief justice,” said Altshuler. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

The women, who came from all over the US for the two-day program, had the opportunity to hear oral arguments, tour the exclusive Supreme Court Library and meet with Gail Curley, marshal of the Supreme Court.

Over dinner the prior evening, the Attorneys and Judges Council group heard remarks from Nicole Saharsky, partner and co-chair of Mayer Brown’s Supreme Court and appellate practice and a former US Department of Justice assistant solicitor general.

“This year we had an incredible group of women of all ages being sworn in,” Altshuler said. “By the end of the day, there was a bond between the participants that could be felt.”

This year’s group also included Amy Sapeika, a Hadassah Evolve Leadership Fellow. “My longstanding involvement with Hadassah has been both deeply rewarding and impactful in countless ways,” Sapeika said. “As an Evolve Leadership Fellow, I had the privilege of witnessing Hadassah’s transformative work in Israel, honing leadership skills and building lasting friendships with a remarkable group of women. Now I can add being sworn into the Supreme Court to my list of lifechanging Hadassah moments.”

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to hear oral arguments before the justices and gain an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the highest court, while deepening my connection with an extraordinary group of Hadassah women who share my passion for law,” Sapeika added.

Along with Conwisar and Sapeika, Barbara Baccari, Chumi Diamond, Shira Forman, Mandy Garver, Adena Goldberg, Jennifer Jackson, Jillian Morris and Samantha Prince were sworn in.

The past 12 years of co-chairing this annual Hadassah program, Tema Sternberg said, “has left me with wonderful, unforgettable memories and friendships.”
