Saar Zelig, 31, like many of Hadassah’s staff, has experienced an especially tumultuous and busy year. Recently, after completing his last round of reserve duty, he began his exciting new role as a pediatric nurse at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem.
“On October 7, just a month after I started working as a nurse at Hadassah, I was called up for reserve duty,” he said.
Additionally, Zelig had just been accepted into the pediatric department, a role for which there were dozens of applicants.
“I promised him the position was his and would wait for him until he returned,” said Bertukan Zrihun, the department’s head nurse. “He would call me from reserve duty to give updates, share how excited he was to start, and assure me he was counting the days. For me, it was clear –– reserve service wouldn’t cancel any role or personal development opportunity.”
After completing his latest round of reserve duty, Saar began working in the department. As he describes it, it’s been pure joy for him.
“I’ve been blessed to work in an incredible family. The Hadassah team waited for me patiently, welcoming me with open arms,” Zelig said. “The work itself is different from what I’ve known ––it’s filled with light. When people ask me how I feel, I say my heart keeps growing here, more and more.”
