Staff and students at Hadassah Neurim Youth Aliyah Village have taken their appreciation to the streets.
During an intimate celebration this May of the village’s 75th anniversary (last year), Barbara “BG” Goldstein was thrilled to find that a street in the village — the main road through the village dormitories, in fact — was named in her honor. Accompanying the street sign that now reads “Barbara Goldstein Street" is another sign featuring BG’s many achievements.
Goldstein, Hadassah's ambassador-at-large at the Hadassah Offices in Israel and a longtime, dedicated supporter of Hadassah Neurim, has been a strong advocate for the continued relationship between Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America and Youth Aliyah.
The sign reads: "Activist and Zionist leader, working in Israel and around the world to promote Jewish Zionist education and love of the land.”
Before family and close friends, including Marcie Natan, past Hadassah national president and current co-chair of Youth Aliyah, and Michele Rubin, co-chair of Youth Aliyah, Goldstein was also presented with an award, designating her yakirat hakfar, a distinguished member of the village.
At the anniversary event, village graduates, students and members told their moving personal war stories, including Michael, whose soldier son was tragically killed in the war. The school choir sang an emotional rendition of "Tachzor Tachzor" (Return, Return) in dedication to the hostages.
