[Hadassah On Call] Fertility Specialist Unpacks Advances in Research and Treatments

Dr. Anat Hershko Klement, director of the IVF Unit at Hadassah Hospital’s Mount Scopus campus, is not only dedicated to her work as a fertility specialist — uncovering groundbreaking infertility research and treatments — she’s passionate about helping couples achieve their dream of becoming parents.

"I see it as a privilege to face these women, couples, and to be able to assist them in their journey to become parents,” says Dr. Hershko Klement.

As we prepare for National Infertility Awareness Week, Dr. Hershko Klement unpacks her game-changing infertility research in Hadassah On Call's new podcast episode, “Beyond the Basics of Infertility Treatments” with host Benyamin Cohen. In the episode, she reveals a surprising correlation between miscarriages and cancer as well as her research in flash freezing eggs as a safe and effective fertility preservation method.

“That’s a true revolution,” Dr. Hershko Klement says, adding, “We can discuss a few revolutions in our field and one of them is definitely the method of freezing.”

Dr. Hershko Klement also shares the advice she’s giving women who are trying to conceive in the wake of COVID-19 and the importance of Hadassah Hospital’s "multidisciplinary approach" that allows patients to consult with doctors from multiple disciplines for a comprehensive treatment plan. With this approach, Dr. Hershko Klement can help a female cancer patient opt for fertility preservation before starting chemotherapy.

“When you have a multidisciplinary team, things work better,” she says, adding, “I think that’s the best, the teamwork. That’s the key.”
