[Hadassah On Call] Hadassah Hospital Expert Debunks the Myths of Menopause

When it comes to women’s health, Dr. Drorit Hochner is more than an expert. She’s a pioneer. Not only was Dr. Hochner the first female resident in gynecology at Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus, she headed the hospital’s OB/GYN department until 2019. Today, she continues to work as a senior physician, teaching residents and helping to create the next generation of Hadassah doctors.

Dr. Hochner shares her expertise on menopause and women's health in the new Hadassah On Call podcast episode, The Myths of Menopause Debunked and Much More,”  timed to coincide with Women’s Health Month.

During her candid conversation with podcast host Benyamin Cohen and special guest Barbara Sofer, the Director of Public Relations, Hadassah Office in Israel, Dr. Hochner dispels myths about hot flashes, hormone therapy and sex drives. With the latest medical advancements and treatments, Dr. Hochner firmly believes that as long as her patients are healthy, their menopausal years can be very fulfilling.

“She can look forward to many more achievements during her menopausal years,” says Dr. Hochner.

Dr. Hochner also shares a moving story about a patient who had reached the age of menopause when her son was killed in a terrorist attack. When her patient expressed that she wanted to have another child, Dr. Hochner helped her give birth to a baby girl who is now a happy, healthy teenager.

"I saw a broken couple," says Dr. Hochner. "They thought that the only way they can overcome this tragedy is by having a new baby. It's not instead of the boy that they lost, but something to put some light in their life."
