“We are used to mass attacks … but what happened on October 7 is unlike anything,” Prof. Alon Pikarsky, head of surgery at the Hadassah Medical Organization, told Israel’s Kol Ha’ir newspaper.
Prof. Pikarsky, anesthesiologist Dr. Aviva Green and head operating room nurse Judy Aswaid recently spoke with Kol Ha’ir about what it was like for them at Hadassah’s hospitals on that fateful Shabbat.
More than 70 wounded patients arrived at the hospital on that day.
“Hadassah has two helicopters, and normally, when a wounded person arrives, we receive him and decide where to transfer him,” Prof. Pikarsky said. “This time, we activated an emergency procedure of a mass attack and the two helicopters operated simultaneously without a break."
"Everyone mobilized without hesitation," Aswaid said. "Arabs and Jews alike, and it was beautiful to see that.”
