Tobacco and Depression, Hadassah Researcher Suggests a Potential Connection

According to a study directed by Prof. Hagai Levine of Jerusalem's Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine, people who smoke tend to be two to three times more likely to experience depression than those who do not smoke. Researchers don't yet know which causes which, but they surmise that smoking causes depression rather than the other way around.
