Earlier this month, some 80 Young Judaea Year Course students visited Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, hearing and seeing in person the incredible work Hadassah does every day. They listened as Dvir Musai shared his powerful story of the Hadassah doctors who helped him survive a terror attack. Julie Benbenishty, Ein Kerem's trauma nurse coordinator, shared insights on her efforts to bring Israeli and Palestinian nurses together to meet and learn from each other. Hadassah’s own Barbara "BG" Goldstein engaged the students with stories about Marc Chagall and the stained-glass windows he created for Ein Kerem's Abbell Synagogue.
Seeing the different areas of the hospital in action brought home Hadssah's impact, including the integral role Hadassah plays in Jerusalem and Israel. They were reminded of the close relationship Hadassah has had, and continues to have, with Young Judaea and saw the impact of American Jewish Zionist women (and men) on Israel's health care system. Several students said they wanted to come back for a more in-depth visit. These young people are the next generation of Zionists and leaders who will help carry on Hadassah's mission.
