According to the National Poll on Healthy Aging by the University of Michigan, "romantic relationships and sex are important even later in life." Sixty-five percent of people surveyed aged 65 to 80 describe themselves as still being interested in sex. In this episode of Hadassah On Call, host Maayan dives into the often-taboo topic of sex and intimacy, especially as we age. The in-depth conversation features Dr. Anna Woloski Wruble, a nurse and tenured senior lecturer at the Center for Sexual Health at the Hadassah Mt. Scopus Medical Center. The clinic headed by Dr. Mijal Luria provides specialized healthcare services related to sexual health and well-being with a focus on areas such as sexual health education, testing, counseling and providing a safe, confidential space for individuals to receive care, advice and treatment related to sexual health.
During the conversation, Maayan and Dr. Wruble explore the physiological and psychological aspects of maintaining sexual health and pleasure in later years. Dr. Wruble discusses the impact of physical changes, medication and life experiences on sexual function and shares valuable advice on communication, the use of sexual aids and maintaining desire. “You should be having sex every minute of the day,” says Dr. Wruble while emphasizing the importance of consulting healthcare professionals as we age for a fulfilling intimate life.
Finally, Dr. Wruble sheds light on the universal nature of sexual health concerns, dispelling myths and offering practical tips for couples at any age. So, if you want to know how to build up sexual desire as you age, the tools every couple should have in their nightstands, how diet and exercise affect intimacy and more, tune in to Ageless Intimacy.
