Welcome to Hadassah Chicago-North Shore!
My Hadassah story started more decades ago than I would ever admit publicly. My Aunt Florence worked as the bookkeeper for Hadassah in New York. Once, when I was just seven years old, Aunt Florence took me to work with her and I spent the entire day stuffing envelopes in that BIG Hadassah office. At the end of the day, they paid me a whole $5. Right then and there, I became a Hadassah fan for life.
I never did lose that devotion to Hadassah. One thing led to another, and here I am.
Hadassah provides a unique sisterhood of Jewish women in which I feel that every one of us truly belongs. Hadassah Chicago-North Shore is filled to the brim with creative, insightful, diligent women who move Hadassah’s mission forward every day.
If you are not already a member, please join us! The 11,000 members and Associates in our region live all over the Chicagoland area and represent every age and stage of life. Come check us out by trying at least one thing with Hadassah: a chapter event, a region event or a Hadassah social event. If you don’t know what to try, I’d be happy to help you figure it out.
If you are already a member, I encourage you to try at least one new something with Hadassah this year:
- Attend an event that sounds fun in a chapter other than your own.
- Bring a non-member friend to an event that you enjoy.
- Become an annual giver.
- Make someone you love a member or an Associate.
- Join a committee that interests you – I know our Executive Committee vice presidents would love to have new people on their committees.
- Join the Building Hadassah Leadership Community program the next time it is offered.
Hadassah brings women together to effect change and advocate on such critical issues as ensuring the security of Israel, combating antisemitism and promoting women’s health. Through the Hadassah Medical Organization's (HMO) two hospitals in Jerusalem, Hadassah delivers exemplary patient care to over one million people every year and supports world-renowned medical research. HMO serves without regard to race, religion or nationality.
There’s a place for you in helping us to accomplish these lifesaving missions. I can’t wait to meet you!
Warmly,
Ellen Eichen Kroot
Hadassah Chicago-North Shore President
