Important Update: Audio-Only Podcast This Month!
Please note that this month's episode is available as audio only. Tune in and enjoy the conversation in audio format as usual!
In this month’s episode of Hadassah On Call: New Frontiers in Medicine, we speak with Prof. Hovav Nechushtan, head of the Genomic Oncology Service at the Hadassah Medical Organization and a leading expert on lung cancer. He explains how to determine if you’re dealing with a typical winter cough or if it could be a sign of something more serious, like lung cancer. Prof. Nechushtan also discusses who might be at risk for lung cancer, even if they’re nonsmokers.
Early diagnosis of lung cancer is critical to survival, he says. Key warning signs include coughing up blood, a persistent cough lasting more than a week, difficulty breathing and changes in your voice. Once diagnosed, patients now have access to many advanced treatments, and the Hadassah Medical Organization is at the forefront of this innovation. Options include proton radiation, biological therapies, new forms of immunotherapy and even antibody-drug conjugates, which are replacing traditional chemotherapy.
Finally, Prof. Nechushtan shares tips on avoiding other winter illnesses, like COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). His advice? Start with vaccination. If you do contract one of these viruses, seek treatment promptly.
